MOLECULAR LAB

WPM Pathology Laboratory is pleased to offer state-of-the-art Molecular testing utilizing the Roche cobas® 4800 system and SurePath Liquid Pap samples for Human Papilloma Virus testing (HPV testing) and Chlamydia trachomatis/Neisseria Gonorrhea testing (CT/NG testing). The Roche cobas® 4800 system is a robust, real-time PCR.

The convenience of one sample for multiple tests is invaluable to your busy schedule. This platform also allows add-on testing for up to four weeks after collection.

Advancing women’s healthcare is a top priority at WPM and by providing in-house, one vial testing for a Pap, HPV and CT/NG we are able to better serve you and your patients. Additional testing is available for HSV, Trichomonas, Candida, and a Vaginosis Panel.

HPV TESTING

The cobas® HPV Test is FDA approved for use with SurePath Liquid Pap samples.

HPV on a SurePath Sample. It is a qualitative in-vitro test for the detection of Human Papillomavirus in cervical specimens collected by a clinician using a cervical broom and placed in SurePath Preservative Fluid. The test utilizes amplification of target DNA by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and nucleic acid hybridization for the detection of 14 high-risk HPV types. The test specifically identifies HPV 16 and 18 types while concurrently detecting the rest of the HPV high-risk types (31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68) in a pool.

The cobas® HPV Test is indicated:

  • To screen patients 21 years and older with ASCUS (atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance) cervical cytology test results to determine the need for referral to colposcopy.
  • To be used in patients 21 years and older with ASCUS cervical cytology results, to detect high-risk HPV genotypes 16 and 18. This information, together with the physician’s assessment of screening history, other risk factors, and professional guidelines, may be used to guide patient management. The results of this test are not intended to prevent women from proceeding to colposcopy.
  • In women 30 years and older, the cobas® HPV Test can be used with cervical cytology to adjunctively screen to detect high risk HPV types. This information, together with the physician’s assessment of screening history, other risk factors, and professional guidelines, may be used to guide patient management.
  • In women 30 years and older, the cobas® HPV Test can be used to detect HPV genotypes 16 and 18. This information, together with the physician’s assessment of screening history, other risk factors, and professional guidelines, may be used to guide patient management.

Please note that a negative result does not preclude the presence of HPV infection because results depend on adequate specimen collection, absence of inhibitors and sufficient DNA to be detected.

CT/NG TESTING

This test is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of chlamydial and gonococcal disease in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. Reflex testing is, also, available up to four weeks.

Please note that a negative result does not preclude the presence of CT and/or NG infection because results depend on adequate specimen collection, absence of inhibitors and sufficient DNA to be detected.

HSV and TRICHOMONAS TESTING

Additionally, these esoteric tests are send outs, but we are able to still use the one liquid Pap vial for testing. Reflex testing is, also, available up to four weeks.
